Dear Members, Delegates, and Guests of Synod,
Because of the timing requirements leading up to this Special Session of Synod, the Provisional Values/Vision/Mission statement, and the Draft Implementation Plan had to be sent out before they had been reviewed by the Diocesan Council.
The Council met in Cranbrook at the end of April (April 28-29). Both Documents were debated by Council Members, and recommendations were made that would change each slightly. Council rejected the dates laid out in the Implementation Plan, and carried a motion to send the Plan to Synod without the dates. Council also suggested changes be made to the Mission section of the Provisional Values/Vision/Mission statement, then approved a motion sending the, once amended, document to Synod.
Both revised documents are now in this Synod Package. As well, the Package now contains what we are calling a “Bridge” document, one that lays out the connections between the Provisional Values/Vision/Mission statement, and the Implementation Plan.
At Diocesan Council, and since the Synod Package #1 was distributed, we have heard and received several questions concerning these Structures Working Group documents. As a result, and given the timing restrictions of a one-day Special Synod, we have organized a Q & A Sheet which is now part of our Report to Synod, and which we hope will prove helpful to you as you continue your preparations for the Synod.
We would like to thank our outgoing Committee Chair, Joanne Simpson, for her dedication, leadership, as we have worked on this project, and we look forward to working with our newly appointed Chair, Beverly Biccum, as God and time move us forward from Synod.
Joyfully & Peacefully,
The Members of the Structures Working Group
