Dear Bishop Bittman,  

Grace and Easter Peace to you in our Lord Jesus Christ.

I write on behalf of the Anglican Diocese of Kootenay to send our condolences to you and to the Diocese of Nelson on the death of Pope Francis.   The Holy Father’s ministry as a servant of Christ, his compassion, humility, love for the poor and disenfranchised, and care for the Earth have touched all who seek to follow Jesus as well as many outside the Christian Faith.   Among many things, I give thanks for Francis’ steadfast advocacy and support of the Catholic Church’s ongoing dialogue and partnership with the Anglican Communion.  I found his grace and integrity inspiring to me.  

We grieve with you in this time.  Please know that our parishes will pray for you and your flock in the days ahead.    May you find strength as you shepherd your people through this loss.  

Rest Eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.  Amen.
